I’m so glad my land and local area has lots of different wild edible mushrooms. Recently we were able to find some chicken of the woods in our area, which have been a favorite since I first started after a day class on mushroom foraging I went to a year ago. I’ve been apart of some online mushroom foraging groups, and some people have also managed to inoculate some hardwood logs with chicken of the woods they had found, though it took a few years. I’m planning on attempting this too with some old hardwood logs we had piled up by our house when we bought it, but are not good enough to use for our indoor wood furnace (many of the logs will also be used to make some hugelkultur beds).

mushroom hunting is one of our favorite things to do in the winter! Hedgehogs are also a nice beginner mushroom as they are pretty distinctive too 🙂
